About
Artists4Aid is designed to bring an international base of volunteer professional contemporary artists to Kenya to:
Aims:
- To nourish and develop children's contemporary creative skills, enhance thier artistic talents encouraging traditional and individual art,
- To give African children an opportunity to be exposed to new ways of seeing and to fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art,
-To promote children's contemporary arts in the communities,
giving them the possibility of communicating through their art,
-To establish a connection between Western and African
contemporary art practices, furthering the careers of the most
talented children as African professional artists
Where:
At the moment, Artists4Aid works in 3 centres in Kenya.
Centre 1: Sipili village in West Laikipia
Centre 2: Lake Naivasha
Center 3: Amboseli
Artists:
The artists of Artists4Aid include those working in visual arts, i.e.: painting, sculpture, photography, installation,
performance, conceptual & multimedia arts, and contemporary music, and dance and theatre.
As a volunteer you will need to:
- Fund your own trip, and raise extra fee for MASK (see more below)
- Donate some of your artwork you have produced during your trip to MASK,
- Give daily art workshop to a groups of 20 schoolchildren in their school with MASK's staff assistance,
-Organise exhibition/s of children's work in school/s and in the local community.
What volunteers will get out of participating:
This is a great initiative for you, even if you never taught art to children before.
Sharing with them your knowledge and inspiration, you will be offering childrena life-changing experience, transforming their self-confidence and motivation.
You will also have the time of your life. Africa is magnificent! The experience will no doubt inspire you and your own art.
How ARTISTS4AID registration works:
1. Download click Application Form
2. Fill it in and post it to MASK together with non-refundable £25 administrative charge (cheque payable to '‘Mobile Art School in Kenya’') to the address: Director, Mobile Art School in Kenya (MASK), 3 Alderney Street, London SW1V 4ES together with £25 administration costs
3. If approved by us, please note you might need to complete a Standard Disclosure Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check form, costs £30
4. You must read Artists4Aid Terms & Conditions. You will have to sign up to and abide by MASK Terms and Conditions, MASK Code of Conduct, Child Protection Code of Conduct and Child Protection Policy.
How much it will cost
•Sipili: £700 per person per 2 weeks. [living costs and transport]
•Naivasha/Amboseli: £1,100 per person per 2 weeks [living costs and transport (You will need to hire a car for daily transportation; MASK staff will help you to do this)]
•
This does not include:
- Air fair (£350 return approx)
- Visa (£25 approx). You’ll need to have your valid passport, and buy a visa at your arrival in Nairobi
- Insurance (£35 orless approx)
- non-refundable £25 administrative charge
- you leasure travel to National Parks
PLEASE READ OUR COMMITMENT NOTE:
To be eligible to volunteer with us you will need to raise at least twice these amounts of money. The difference will help us to fund our work in Kenya, as well as pay our staff for will be assisting you throughout your stay.
Dont worry, we can help you to fundraise. HOW? We will create a JustGiving page for you which you can use it in your fundrasing.
Payments must be made one month in advance before traveling
What MASK will do for you?
•You will be met at the airport in Nairobi by a MASK's representative and transported to Sipili or Naivasha. We will aslo take you back to Nairobi airport on your way back
•Hire transport and driver
•Accompany you at all times for security
•Assist at workshops
•Give you basic training, an induction in our policies, cultural and local customs. You will have a chance to talk through the programme with MASK directors and trustees, and get an idea about what to expect, and what the programme expects from you. We will brief you on health, security and accommodation and give you advice on what you’ll need to take with you and things you might need to sort out before you go.
