EARLY 21 CENTURY

YOUNG AFRICAN ARTISTS:

THE SYMBOL OF WHAT IS POSSIBLE

MASK Prize is pleased to present Early 21st Century Young African Artists, a group exhibition of 19 artists, aged 18-25, from Kenya.

Artworks - 20 prints of digital art, photographs and paintings - will be on view at the Saatchi Gallery in London from 5 December 2018 to 12 January 2019

The vibrant artworks were selected for the breadth of artistic approaches, styles and medium. Skillful storytellers and keen observers, the artists have captured the energy of youth, mirrored the life, and commented on the human condition in modern Africa. Re-defining their identities, values, and social constructs, they make art because "Art is where we express our creativity".

In Africa, access to the arts for young people is limited. There is little art in schools. Most of children will never visit an art gallery. The curtailed access to the arts threatens young people's creativity and innovation essential to their successful employability and leadership.

The renowned pan-African creativity competition, MASK Prize, provides a unique opportunity for all young Africans regardless of ability and income to foster and celebrate their creativity and share it with the audiences in Africa and the West.

The show is curated by Alla Tkachuk.
